Highlight of the month: I turned 30 (yup, I’m still talking about it, it’s just a bit weird). I spent the day in London and Oxford (because the TV show Lewis is one of my favourite things) and it was lovely. The Bodleian gift shop got a lot of my money.
Reading wise it’s been a month of finishing off books I’d begun, graphic novels, and small reads. I didn’t invest the time into much more.
Currently Reading:
The Count of Monte CristoΒ – Alexandre Dumas
A Clash of KingsΒ – George R.R. Martin
The Cursed Child – WHEN IT FINALLY ARRIVES.
Unfinished:
None!
I’ve Read:
- Pyongyang: A Journey in North Korea – Guy Delisle
- Logicomix – Apostolos Doxiadis
- The Wolves of Willoughby Chase – Joan Aiken
- Clothes, Clothes, Clothes. Music, Music, Music. Boys, Boys, Boys. – Viv Albertine
- Animal: The Autobiography of a Female Body – Sara Pascoe
- Agatha: The Real Life of Agatha Christie – Anne Martinetti
- Hysteria: Graphic Freud Series – Appignanesi, Richard
- The Tidal Zone – Sarah Moss
- We Were The Mulvaneys – Joyce Carol Oates
The Tidal Zone was by far the best book of my month, more about that in Shiny New Books on Thursday. The most disappointing was We Were The Mulvaneys, I think I missed something significant about it, because it failed to move me.
The Bodleian shop is rather lovely, isn’t it. My literary July was a mixture of cold climes and France in terms of novels read…

It really is, I could spend my life (and savings) in there.

Happy belated birthday π and I am pleased you enjoyed some trips to London and Oxford (I also love Lewis). Looks like you’ve been doing some great reading too – I read Clash of Kings not long ago and I read The Wolves of Willoughby Chase at school; you’re taking me down memory lane. I am pleased to say since I broke up for the long summer holiday my reading has really increased. I hope we both do more great reading in August π

Thank you π
Always good to meet a fellow Lewis fan! Hooray for you getting to read more as well, that’s marvellous.

My literary July was just okay. I didn’t read as much as I’d have liked to, and although I learned many interesting new facts, I didn’t read any books that truly truly blew me away. Hoping August will be better!

How’s August so far, any gems?
I think learning facts is a good substitute for not being able to read as much.
